The Philosophy of The Tower

Tarot is an interesting tool. It can be used for an Old Card Playing Game, it can be used for Introspection; it can be used to weed out our own subconscious, communicate with Spirits; and even give us Possible Fortunes. Yet at it's core, with the Rider-Waite imagery in tact, it tells a story of Paths, and Journeys.

Recently, I've gone through a bit of a Forceful Upheaval. A Tower that has come crashing down. And, it's made me reflect on one of the most important cards - in my opinion - in the Entire Tarot Deck. Let me run you through the story:

The card proceeding The Tower is The Devil. The Devil is the card of vices, of chains, and things that keep us where we are. The Tower, on the other hand, represents our poor foundations crumbling. Yet the true meaning of the Tower is found in the card After; The Star. The Star is the card of Hope, of Blessings from Heaven. The card of the little lights in the sky that guide us even through the dimly lit night.

See, there are two things that we can do when we are faced with the fact that we need to change something. We can A) try to make what we have work until it fits with the future we are going for. Or B) We can take a leap of faith and try something new, hoping our future vision will mold itself a new.

The thing with us Humans, is that we really like Safety and Security. Even the most adventurous of us find Inner Security in the fact that we are adventurous; we cling on to that identity as permission to be wanderlust. But sometimes, you will inevitably run into the '... But I can't give up that...'

It's hard, I know; admitting that some things are better off leaving our lives. We can get so comfortable with things some times that the thought of ever changing feels like losing our very identity. But someone much wiser than I once told me that

"New Things cannot grow where Old Things lie; unless Old Things lie dead, new things cannot grow from them."

What things have you been refusing to change, because the old is comforting? What things did you start changing, but gave up because it was too uncomfortable, or too much work? I can't blame you, because I was in that exact same spot. But maybe... Just maybe, we can learn to let go. We can learn to move on. We can learn that if something was not meant to be, it means there is more that can be.
